Tribute Series

The Camel Trophy Tribute Series started in Indonesia to honor the spirit of the legendary Camel Trophy—one of the toughest off-road challenges ever conceived. These modern tribute expeditions celebrate the grit, teamwork, and exploration that defined the original events, while promoting eco-tourism, cultural engagement, and responsible adventure travel.
Indonesia holds a special place in Camel Trophy history, having hosted the event four times:
Sumatra (1981) – the inaugural Camel Trophy route outside South America
Kalimantan (1985 & 1996) – iconic for its swampy jungles and river crossings
Sulawesi (1988) – famous for its rugged interior and mountainous trails
Fittingly, the Tribute Series itself began in Indonesia, with passionate off-roaders retracing these legendary routes under period-correct conditions—dense rainforests, remote villages, treacherous river crossings, and mud-laden trails. Each edition blends extreme adventure with cultural immersion and environmental responsibility, drawing both local and international teams with a shared appreciation for overland heritage and discovery.
The 2027 edition of the series will be hosted and organized by The Sabah Land Rover Club of Malaysia in Sabah, marking the first official cross-border Camel Trophy Tribute and expanding the legacy across Borneo.
