President’s Message
About us

John Kong
Sabah Land Rover Club President (2026-2028)
Welcome to Sabah Land Rover Club.
As a founding member, it is a special honour to serve as President of the club we established ten years ago. Officially registered on 8 September 2016, SLRC began with a simple vision: to bring together people who share a passion for Land Rovers, adventure, exploration and friendship. That vision continues to guide us as we enter our second decade.
Our club belongs to every member who has helped shape its journey. A special thank you goes to Datuk Henry Hing, our founding President, whose leadership during the formative years helped establish the foundation upon which SLRC continues to grow today. His presence at our recent gathering made the occasion especially meaningful as we celebrated a decade of friendship, adventure and the club’s achievements.
I also thank our outgoing President, Shone Majimbun, and his committee for their dedication and contributions. We remember with gratitude our late founding members, Danny Goh and Mary Ann James, whose contributions remain part of our history.
My vision for the next two years is to make SLRC an active, inclusive and respected community of Land Rover enthusiasts—a club that celebrates its heritage while embracing the future.
I look forward to more regular gatherings, weekend drives, camping trips, overland expeditions and activities that bring families together. I hope to reconnect with longstanding members, welcome new owners and encourage younger enthusiasts to become involved. Whether you drive a cherished Series Land Rover, a classic Defender, a Discovery, a Range Rover or the latest Defender, you have a place in our club. Our shared spirit of adventure and the friendships we build are what bring us together.
Sabah holds a special place in Land Rover’s adventure history, particularly through Camel Trophy Sabah 1993. As we look towards Sabah Tribute 2027, I hope SLRC can help celebrate that heritage and share its spirit with a new generation. We also want to strengthen our connections with communities that have welcomed us over the years, including our friends in Long Pasia and other rural parts of Sabah. Our journeys should reflect respect for nature, care for others and appreciation for our beautiful homeland.
I am committed to teamwork, transparency and giving every member a voice. With the support of our executive committee and members, we can turn our shared ideas into meaningful activities and experiences. I invite you to participate, contribute and help shape the club’s next chapter.
For me, the greatest part of any expedition is the friendships, experiences and stories we collect along the way. I look forward to sharing many more of those journeys with you.
One Club. One Passion. Endless Adventures.
